SPECIALIZING IN MECHANICAL PAIN SYNDROMES & CONDITIONS RELATED TO BIOMECHANICAL MALALIGNMENT / POSITIONAL FAULTS AND SOFT TISSUE ISSUES.
My father took me to see the only chiropractor in my small town to see if he could help me with my chronic elbow pain. That chiropractor fixed my elbow in 7 visits... He fixed it when no one else could. I also suffered with chronic neck and back pain , and injured my shoulder while in the Marines. When I returned home from active duty , it was chiropractic, manual therapy and exercise that helped me recover and manage these issues.
I believe I was meant to be in this profession. Since 1989 , I have strived to acquire the skills necessary to provide the most logical and effective methods of diagnosis and treatment. I have treated champion athletes , young children and the elderly... Along the way , what I have learned is that a team approach is often the best approach. When you work with like minded providers, the patient can always benefit. Progressing from the least invasive methods to more invasive , as dictated by the patient's status , just makes good sense. I regularly refer for outside consults and care when I think it is the right call for my patient.
Back pain, neck pain , and other painful musculoskeletal issues can be debilitating . You deserve to be treated with compassion and understanding . I will do my best to help you understand your individual problems , as well as how my treatment and guidance can play a role in your injury recovery , pain management , and performance care.
Compensatory Pattern Management & Foundational Fitness Care helps provide the strong foundation we need to monitor , improve and manage many of the most common mechanical dysfunctions and imbalances that we deal with on a regular basis. The goal is to help you optimize recovery from injuries , manage pain and improve performance. This concept creates a more structured , global approach to the evaluation , treatment and management of issues , versus just looking to the location of pain for all of the answers.
Years of observation correlating computerized pressure plate gait analysis studies with weight bearing X-rays and clinical findings, helped me confirm just how much we share common weight bearing patterns . This information, for example , made me look closer at why someone may have more of a collapsed arch on one foot than another. What I found was that the best treatment was not always an expensive custom orthotic. Why was that arch more collapsed than the other side ? What was this a compensation for ? Often , the answer(s) could be found with a more thorough approach to looking at global biomechanics. For example: An anatomical long leg on one side could force the arch down on that long leg side to try and help level the pelvis. A hard arch support to crank that arch back up would not be the answer , as this would only throw off the mechanics further up the kinetic chain. Leg length correction via an inexpensive lift for the short leg side might be the most logical step in that case. In another case, it might be that restricted hip motion was causing a compensatory gait pattern, or perhaps they were compensating for an old injury , and this was altering their gait pattern. All of these considerations are important . It's true that the feet are foundational , but they also exhibit compensatory behavior , and may compensate for issues further up the kinetic chain. This is why I try not to see my patients as just a foot pain, or a back pain patient , but a mechanical pain patient that may be in pain more so because of multiple global issues , than just a localized pain complaint . Not that this does not happen, but when mechanical pain becomes chronic , it is often because we are perhaps not seeing the more global nature of the problem or problems .
I have been involved in various forms of fitness activities throughout high school, the Marines, and currently into my 50s. In addition to being a DC for over 30 years, I was a CSCS through the NSCA for 24 years. I have worked with athletes involved with Crossfit, running, weight lifting, golf, tennis, soccer, field hockey, baseball, football, etc,
What I have observed with myself , these athletes, and many other patients , is that when certain foundational asymmetries/imbalances are present, we tend to suffer with chronic injuries and limited performance.
CPMCare™ helps identify and address these most foundational issues.
--------------------------------------
Frustrated because every time you exercise , you seem to injure yourself ?
Old injuries continue to flare up ?
Does it seem like the more you try to stretch or strengthen a muscle, the worse you get ?
It could be because your body mechanics are off...
Common imbalances may be magnified to such a degree that further attempts to move only makes things worse. Your body is trying to tell you something...
Can you see how important becoming aware of these imbalances can be ?
------------------------------------------------------------------
CPMCare™ & Foundational Fitness Care™ are interdependent.
There are about 260 bones in the body and about 600 muscles . Muscles move bones. Nerves tell muscles what to do, and what not to do , due to feedback from joint and muscle receptors. Your brain may ask your leg to move forward for example. However , your muscle and joint sensors may decide it's not such a great idea to move with the normal pattern of muscle recruitment , due to problems these sensors detect with various muscles and joints involved in that normal movement pattern. Your nervous system will then create an alternative way to move your leg forward... This can lead to imbalances and overuse injuries , which may compound over time.
Trying to strengthen an inhibited muscle or muscles is not the answer. The reason for the inhibition must be dealt with first. Only then will the body permit strengthening to improve the muscle imbalance.
What I am trying to say is, you often can not just exercise your way to foundational fitness. Frequently , I have found that we must apply specific manual therapy methods to help "reboot" your system , which is causing the inhibition of a muscle or muscles. When these treatments are successful , they will help deactivate the body's compensatory safety mechanisms, allowing the inhibited muscles to once again become active and receptive to conditioning and strengthening.
Sometimes restoring these normal movement patterns can be complicated, requiring you to go through various stages of treatment to reach optimal improvement. Generally, the longer the problem has existed , the longer it takes to peel back the layers of compounded compensatory issues . Once we reach the most basic levels of compensation , management becomes much more simple and effective.
Ultimately , we must strive to create symmetry and balance with regards to how we use our bodies in our most basic activities of daily living . I look forward to helping you make the most out of the basics. Problems often become chronic , because the basics were not handled adequately , or ignored completely.
Getting you out of pain is the first step. Regular monitoring and care of your most foundational issues can then help prevent unnecessary injuries and improve performance.

So where does the Foundational Fitness Care™ come into play ?
Once your pain has greatly diminished, we can get you started on the Foundational Fitness Care™ program. This program is specifically designed to work hand in hand with your office based care.
Improvements made with this program will improve your office based care and vice versa.
I have simplified the beginner/basic program to help you just get used to the idea of having it plugged into your lifestyle .
The program is very logical , affordable and do-able.
Take care of the basics first and then feel free to add other activities as you like. All I request is that you prioritize these 10 minute workouts into your schedule .
I will tell you that the patients who are doing the best in my office are the ones who have fully embraced this integrated approach . They often suffer with less severe exacerbations related to chronic issues, and in addition find they are performing better with their workouts and activities of daily living.
It's up to you, the program is pretty much excuse free.
Both beginner and advanced foundational fitness sample programs are available upon request (active patients only).

Each visit is a combination of various manual and physical medicine modalities linked to the chiropractic philosophy of optimizing nervous system functioning . The soft tissues and the joints are given equal consideration and treatment is usually a mix of both soft tissue and joint techniques .
A progression of forces concept/ treatment philosophy is utilized , generally progressing from the least invasive methods , to more aggressive methods , as dictated by the patient's response to care.
FULLY INTEGRATED VISITS WITH SHOCKWAVE THERAPY OFFERS QUALIFIED CANDIDATES A LESS INVASIVE OPTION FOR MANY CHRONIC PAIN ISSUES.

WHAT I DO IN THE OFFICE IS ULTIMATELY DESIGNED TO EMPOWER YOU TO BE ABLE TO HELP YOURSELF, AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.
This is not a high volume practice. Self care counseling is a part of most regular visits. This is one of the reasons why the office visit portion of your visit may be as important , and often more important than the physical treatment itself. Allowing time for this portion of the visit often requires more time than if you were just attending therapy several times per week, as is the case with many chiropractic and physical therapy offices. This may be why most new patients rarely need to come more than once per week for an initial trial of treatment .

My youngest CPMCare™patient started care as a very active 7 year old. His mother, also an active patient, saw the logic of this approach, and asked if she could bring her then 7 year old child in for this type of care. He continues to participate in multiple sports, returning as needed, utilizing CPMCare™ as the foundation for his evaluation and treatment.
We all share very similar basic imbalances that should be monitored and managed.
This is a very simple and uncomplicated approach that we all should be incorporating into our lives.
